NOTE: IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE FAMILIES THAT ARE CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF ADOPTING, I HAVE DECIDED TO REMOVE THE NAME OF THE COUNTRY OF WHICH WE ARE WALKING TO. THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING. I DON'T WANT TO INADVERTENTLY DO ANYTHING THAT COULD ULTIMATELY STAND IN THE WAY OF A FAMILY ADOPTING.

FIVE THOUSAND FOOTSTEPS WALK-A-THON 2010

November 1-30th, 2010

Purpose: To raise money for adoption grants for at-risk special needs orphans in Eastern Europe. These orphans are near aging out; upon becoming "too old" (a mere five years of age), they will be placed in institutions (yes, it is as bad as it sounds), and no longer available for adoption. See FAQ's for more information.

Goal: We are walking 5,050 miles (the distance from Chicago to Eastern Europe) over a thirty day period to raise a minimum of $10,000!

How it Works:

Participants:
Participants will pledge to raise a minimum of $500 during the 30 day period. The money will be raised through pledges and one-time donations. During the month of November, you will walk as many miles as you can specifically for the walk-a-thon. Footsteps that count: walking on a treadmill, walking outside, running, elliptical training, etc. Footsteps that do NOT count: regular, daily footsteps that you would be doing whether or not you participate. This is you making a conscious, goal-oriented effort to provide for these children (. One month of hard work and a little sacrifice could literally change a child's life! Isn't it worth thirty days of your time?

Five hundred dollars. Thirty days. Many miles, achy feet, conscious devotion to the cause.... can you do it? YES!
Think about it:
Just 20 pledges at 10 cents per mile... that's $2 for every mile you walk. 250 miles = $500
(250 miles over 30 days is just over 8 miles per day; that's about 2 1/2 hours of your day spent walking. You can do it before work, mid-day, after work... whatever it takes! And think of how fit you'll be for the holiday season!)

Pledges/Sponsors:
Sponsors can pledge any amount toward the participant's effort. You may choose a maximum donation amount, or choose to pledge toward every mile earned. A dime a mile, a dollar a mile, give what you can, it WILL make a difference!

Consider this:
20 participants walking 252.5 miles each = 5,050 miles to save these orphans
If you pledge to your walker:
10 cents per mile, that's $25.25 that you've given to save a child
1 dollar per mile, that's $252.50 that you've given to save a child

Literally, EVERY PENNY COUNTS!

Donations to Reece's Rainbow are 100% tax deductible.

Think you don't have $250 extra for the month? I found it in my extremely tight budget:
Cutting out my once a week Starbuck's (for just one month)- $20
Choosing not to buy my gourmet cheese (for just one month)- $20
Listing three items that I no longer use on Craiglist- $60
Making a commitment that the family wouldn't eat out this month- $100
Convincing my husband to go without buying any soda (for just one month)- $50
____________________________________________________________
TOTAL I CUT (WITHOUT IMPACTING MY FAMILY BUDGET) $250

Now, think again.. can you find a way to save a child's life?

Welcome!

Have you heard of Reece's Rainbow? Check the link right now if you haven't already, and then, ask yourself this:

What would you do to save the life of a child?

What COULD YOU DO to save the life of a child?

YOU CAN save a child.

Now ask yourself...

What WILL I DO to save the life of a child?
